Sports & Recreation Ministries

Where YOU can minister through doing something YOU love!

Welcome To SportsLife! What is SportsLife? Is it a new program? Is it a new organization? I like to think of it as a new approach to Sports and Recreation Ministry here at Wedgwood. For many people sports and recreational pursuits are their life. They live and work so that they can pursue the activities that they enjoy the most. I am reminded of a t-shirt that I saw in the mall; the front side of the shirt read, “Football is Life,” and on the back of the shirt it read, “Everything else is just details.” You may have seen this shirt or one like it, or you may even own one. Jesus tells us, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Sports and recreation can be a useful tool for attracting those who find their life in sports and recreation and introducing them to Jesus, “The Life”.

Let me pose a question, you already know the answer to. How many of you have been called into the ministry?

The aim of the Sports & Recreation Ministry is to help train you to have a ministry while you do the activities you already enjoy doing. God has mighty work in store, as we endeavor to equip His people, empower His people, and the let His people go to utilize their gifts and talents in a fun and exciting way to see people come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Serving Christ does not have to be burden, nor do we have to stop doing what we enjoy to have a ministry. God does not “CALL” the “EQUIPPED,” He “EQUIPS” the “CALLED.” In Ephesians, Paul instructs that ministers should be about preparing the people of God for the works of service (Ephesians 4:11-12). One of the catch phrases you will hear from me and see printed on SportsLife materials is, “You can have a ministry through doing something You love.” What I want to do is to help train you and help you have that ministry. The mission of the SportsLife Ministry is to reach the un-churched by equipping the church to use sports and recreation as a ministry.
